If nobody can see or follow you, a small step back may be the helpful decision.

D.Va can move between threats and offer protection where the team needs it. Look for the teammate or angle that will matter next.
Keep enough awareness to return when the pressure shifts behind you.
damage / Off-angle pressure
Tracer can make space indirectly by drawing attention to a side route. A safe way out lets that contribution continue over several exchanges.
You do not need to chase every low-health target to have helped the team.
damage / Steady sightline pressure
Soldier: 76 is a useful way to explore steady pressure from cover. Choose a place where you can see the same fight your teammates are having.
A comfortable angle stops helping once the team has turned the next corner.
support / Ranged support and utility
Ana benefits from seeing both the teammates she supports and the danger approaching her. A short move behind cover can protect that view.
Leave room to react. Staying scoped through every exchange can hide a nearby threat.
support / Responsive protection
Kiriko can answer a dangerous moment without needing to remain in the open. Decide where the team can keep playing after the immediate save.
Helping one teammate should not make you disappear from everyone else for the rest of the fight.
